Pesticides kill bugs.

Butterflies are bugs.  Yes, it's true.

Pesticides kill butterflies.

Should we go through another medfly disaster and you're in the attack zone, your butterflies will be killed.  There are a few things you can do to help them:
Water
After the helicopters/planes pass, spray the malathion off your butterfly plants with the water hose.   You might want to wait the hour some experts claim is necessary for human safety.

Cover
Only use this method if you're going to be home to uncover the plants quickly!   Cover your butterfly plants with plastic and then uncover them after the sprayers have moved on.

Tent
Using plastic, create a canopy over your butterfly plants leaving plenty of room for air flow between the tops of the plants and the tent.   Do the same for shallow water and mud, such as ponds and butterfly saucers.
